50 years since Yuri Gargarin’s mission into Space

It was 50 years since Yuri Gagarin made his flight into space. He was the first human to do so when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961. The cosmonaught represents not only a pivotal step in technology and space exploration but the ultimate in childhood dreams.

I particularly like Google’s graphic homage to the space pioneer; the image both retains the iconoclastic space look of the early 1960s and is child-friendly.

Happy 50 years Yuri Gagarin!
